Another fantastic weekend for women’s sport saw Britain’s athletes take two world titles and numerous medals. Helen Glover and Heather Stanning continued their unbeaten run of 28 to retain the World Title at the Rowing World Championships and Rachel Atherton won her third World title in downhill mountain biking.
Rowing World Championships: Five medals and six boats qualified for Rio 2016
In a fantastic weekend for British rowing, Helen Glover and Heather Stanning took gold and extended their unbeaten record to 28. There were silvers for the women’s four, lightweight single, lightweight double and quad to put Britain top of the medals table.
Katherine Grainger and Vicky Thornley also qualified the women’s double scull for the Rio Olympics.

Earlier in the competition, the Para-rowers won gold and three silvers and qualified all boats for Rio.
The mixed four of Grace Clough, Dan Brown, Pamela Relph, James Fox and cox Oliver James defended their title but were pushed all the way by the US. Full story via the BBC
Downhill Mountain bike: Rachel Atherton wins third world title
Great Britain Cycling Team’s Rachel Atherton delivered a masterclass to win a third downhill mountain bike world title. Atherton edged out compatriot and defending champion Manon Carpenter in a one-two as the Great Britain Cycling Team flourished in Vallnord, Andorra. Full story via British Cycling
Great Britain women’s wheelchair basketball team have won their fourth straight European Championship bronze medal after a comprehensive 69-39 victory over France.
After losing 56-55 to Paralympic champions Germany in the semis, Britain were dominant throughout the match on Sunday. Full story via the BBC
Tennis: Johanna Konta beats Andrea Petkovic to reach last 16 at US Open
Johanna Konta, the first British qualifier to ever reach the fourth round of the US Open after another superb win over a top 20 opponent in Andrea Petkovic, is starting to make heads swivel in the locker room. For those who have not being paying attention, it was her 16th win in a row – coming two days after she beat the Wimbledon finalist Garbiñe Muguruza – a sequence unmatched by any of her British contemporaries over the past 15 years. Britain’s Vicky Holland won the penultimate World Series event of the season in Edmonton, Canada. The 29-year-old triumphed in 58 minutes and 55 seconds – nine seconds ahead of Bermuda’s Flora Duffy, with Australian Gillian Backhouse third. Full story via the BBC
Athletics: Brits take silver at Diamond League Zurich
Shara Proctor, who won silver at the World Championships, came third in the women’s long jump with a 6.58m leap in the fifth round Her fellow Briton Jazmin Sawyers was fourth with 6.55m and Lorraine Ugen came eighth spot with a jump of 6.31m.
In the 800m Lynsey Sharp produced a strong race to finish in second behind Kenya’s Eunice Jepkoech Sum, who ran 1:59.14. Shelayna Oskan-Clarke was 11th.
